Q9: How do I set up firmware for nxscsi boot?


A: To setup firmware for nxscsi boot:

1. Shutdown operating system using standard procedure.

2. Insert tape supplied into tape drive/cdrom

3. Load tape/cdrom

4. At the console prompt ( >>> ) type the following
boot/100 mka500:

Note: mka500 is an example please user correct drive name
For your configuration.

5. When the tape/cdrom has finished booting it will prompt
you bootfile:

Note: for vax 31/41 system
Sysboot41_v26.xl (clock only)
Sysboot41_v26.xlc (cache)
Sysboot41_v26.m (memory)
Sysboot41_v26.xlcm (cache & memory)
Sysboot41_dec.exe (dec systen)

Note for vax 4500a, 4600a, 4700, 4705
sysboot_70.exe (dec system)
sysboot45a_xlcs.exe
sysboot46a_xlcs.exe

6. You will be asked if you wish to continue. Type yes followed
by a return.

7. When completed control will return to the console
prompt. At this point turn power off then back on.

8. Reboot the system
Copy sysloa file to system disk [sys$ldr]
note for vax 31/41 system
directory [sysloa-3141]
notes for vax 4500a,4600a,4700,4705
directory [sysloa700]

9. Back/imag system disk to nxscsi disk

10. Shut down operating system

11. Boot dkw999 will show the disk on nxscsi controller

12. Boot dkw? The disk that has the operating system on it
